Photographer or videographer: the basics
What the job involves
Photographers cover weddings, family and newborn sessions, business headshots, products and events; videographers film weddings and promotional content. Styles vary, so look at full galleries, not just highlights, and check they have shot similar events.
What to ask a pro, and what to have ready
Agree the date, hours of coverage, number of edited images, delivery time and whether prints or an album are included. Ask about a backup photographer if they are ill, their insurance, and who owns the copyright and how you can use the images.
Safety and good to know
LincsDirectory doesn't vet or endorse businesses — always check credentials and get a written quote.
Good to know
the photographer's style, not just the price, is what you will live with, so compare galleries from similar venues and lighting. Ask what happens to your images if the photographer's business closes and whether you receive high-resolution files for printing. A pre-wedding or trial session helps everyone relax on the day. Agree the timetable for the day and give the photographer a list of group shots you want.

How many photos will I get?
It varies with the photographer and the package: a wedding day often yields several hundred edited images, a one-hour family session far fewer. Agree the number and delivery format in writing.
